Client: AMA Srl (Mobility and Traffic Agency of Milan Municipality)
The project includes two components, one devoted to data and the other to software design and deployment.
The first involves a feasibility study whose objectives are:
- to evaluate the problems and quantify the resources needed to get and insert inside the DB all the information concerning the road planimetries (4,100 roads), existing in paper form. On such a planimetries the road signs are placed and a set of paper documentation is connected, containing other relevant data.
- to evaluate the management problems: temporary phase associated to the transition from the paper to digital system, data maintenance and upgrade, users’ training, time needed to start-up Road Signs Cadastre.
The second is aimed to organize and support, by means of the software, the work-flow regulating the issue of decrees involving the introduction, the approval and the placement of road signs in the Urban Area of Milan.
The first sub-project (data) is divided into the following phases:
- definition of the information to be acquired;
- quantitative analysis of the information to be acquired;
- complete data acquisition of a sample area;
- drawing up of technical tender dossier;
- procedures definition relevant to the management of the transition phase between rough data acquisition and put into service of the information system.
At the end of the analysis phase a complete data set of a representative sample area have been acquired with ArcView. The outcome of this acquisition have been considered as an example of the expected final result for the whole acquisition and as a tool for the quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Last phase of the data project has been devoted to the definition and the measuring of the resources needed for data acquisition and for drawing up the procedures relevant to the following activities:
- management of the transition phase, where it will be guaranteed, with the aid of dedicated software application, the update of only new installations. The other activities will be traced and input into the system during alignment phase;
- management of alignment phase and system consolidation phase where the data base and the cartographic data acquired during state-of-the-art acquisition phase will be integrated with recent information and the ones traced during transition phase;
- management of start-up phase.
