Client: Snam Rete Gas (Eni Group)

The module named SIGAS - Pipe Book is a component of the greater project “Operating Infrastructure Management”, whose objective is the carrying out of an integrated Information System able to cover the technical value chain included in the industrial processes of the gas’ network management.

With the name Pipe Book is usually meant the document produced during the laying-down of the pipelines.

Such a document contains detailed information involving all the components (mechanical and electrical) of the pipe. Pipe Book Project comes out by the users’ needs in order to get all the data involved in the engineering and, simultaneously, having a territorial context able to geo-reference the plants. This step is reached implementing GIS technology, connected with a large and robust Oracle RDBMS. The application is continuously up-to-dated implementing “on-field” needs coming from new pipeline design and laying-down.

A significant progress of the supporting database comes from the  “works-on-line” derived by the modernization of the plants  and by the surveys managed with the “pigs” (instrumented tools able to pass through the pipe, extracting technical data and verifying structures’ integrity).

Several territorial offices, working according to a well-defined hierarchy (centres, districts, zones) are involved in the usage of Pipe Book application.

Pipe Book is aligned to SIGAS application, and is integrated, at a database level,  with the other applications used in Snam Rete Gas.

Pipe Book has been developed on a Web architecture (implemented on an Intranet network) using the following technologies:
