Client: Snam Rete Gas (Eni Group)
Snam Rete Gas is the major gas transmission pipeline company in Italy and transports approximately 90% of the total gas volumes flowing into Italy.
Snam Rete Gas distributes gas using its own transportation network which is about 29,000 km long. GESP is supplier of Snam Rete Gas since 1995 and provides services and solutions in the field of GIS. In particular GESP has developed many GIS software applications to manage the whole gas transportation network.
SIGAS is a GIS / CAD environment able to manage all the properties, the components and the digital data associated with Snam Rete Gas’ network. SIGAS is used by several users to plan and operate interventions to maintain and / or repair the pipelines and includes the detailed drawings of the network components.
The pipelines are geo-referenced on cadastral as well as a (raster and vector) technical cartography, to manage the territorial ownership and the technical issue regarding the lifetime of the network. SIGAS is present in the Snam Rete Gas Head Office (in Milan) and is shared on the whole national territory and in particular in all the 8 Snam Rete Gas Departments sited in Italy. These departments are able to edit data and represent the share node for the information to further 72 units, having an operating activity “on field”.
It’s divided in 3 modules able to manage the cartography at different detail levels:
Cadastral SIGAS (geo-referenced on cadastral maps);
Continuum (geo-referenced on aerophotogrammetric maps), including the following sub-modules for managing data from:
- pipeline inspections using pigs;
- pipeline insulation coating from external (electric) measurements;
- survey of the pipeline from helicopter flights;
- gas quality measurements;
- evaluation of risks related to geological events.
