Client: Gnl Italia S.p.A.
Gnl Italia S.p.A. is an Italian company working in the import, storage, handling and transformation of Natural Gas (GNL, LNG in English, is an abbreviation for Liquid Natural Gas) from liquefied to gaseous status. The ship coming from Algeria or other Countries, discharge liquid gas into 2 enormous tanks, in which the gas is stored, handled and afterwards put into the national gas distribution network.
The project consists in the carrying out of a Digital Information System of the whole plant, including the following items:
- Data acquisition: revision of data collection standards, database design and development, conversion from paper to digital support and docs’ scanning, quality control and clean-up, digitising, alphanumeric data-entry and post-processing;
- 3D laser scanning and plant’s model reconstruction: this activity involved an in-field data acquisition, performed employing a very advanced, high-resolution laser scanning, the next reconstruction of points clouds and the translation to a plant’s 3D model, supported by plant’s photos and details. The 3D objects are divided in macro-sets and, once reconstructed the 3D model, a new qualified, attributes-oriented 3D model is generated using specialized software (Bentley Plant Space Design Series).
- Custom software application: the plant’s database supports a Graphic Custom Application, carried out to:
- search and handle plant’s document;
- manage technical documents;
- connect docs to all the plant’s documents.
An in-depth training course, oriented to managers, technicians and operators, completes the project. The system is based on Bentley MicroStation and Bentley Plant Space Design Series technology, provided by Bentley itself.
