Client: AMSA, Milano

gespAMSA (Azienda Milanese Servizi Ambientali, Milanese Environmental Services Company) is the municipal authority of Milan for the waste management. AMSA mission is to collect waste and manage incinerators, covering  an urban area of over 180 km2 and offering environmental services to a population of about two million inhabitants.

GESP has been providing GIS solutions to AMSA until 1995, filling up geographical database and developing software applications to manage the whole urban area of Milan. The relationship between AMSA and GESP began with the design of a portion of the vector GIS dataset regarding Milan area: through different contracts in several years, AMSA committed to GESP the construction of the whole vector GIS dataset of the City of Milan.

The here described contract regards the design and achievement of a GIS Mobile application representing a cartographic tool for the census and the maintenance of waste containers shared inside the urban area.

Such an application, based on PC Tablet, has the objective to collect on the field the data regarding position and features of waste containers. Such an application is carried out using Intergraph GeoMedia technology and a sophisticated software procedure to acquire the data in the central GIS workstation (based on ESRI technology).

The application uses street numbers, buildings and viability information to plan interventions and recovery policy.

The user is able to query, modify, shift, delete the “objects” represented on  raster / vector maps, introducing alphanumeric attributes and updating the records.
