Client: San Giuliano Milanese Municipality
San Giuliano Milanese is a big Municipality near Milan, having typical needs of e-government and reduction of the times of bureaucracy. At this aim, in January 2003, the Municipality and GESP began to implement a GIS solution (based on ESRI technology) collecting all the available data as 14 base and thematic layers (Town Planning, cadastral maps, aero-photogrammetry, green areas, etc.).
The project has involved the supply of hardware, commercial software and, above all, services, to carry out DB design and fill-up, GIS customisation, Web-GIS applications and, subsequently, a public, controlled Geo-Portal used by professionals, surveyors and architects, to submit to the Municipality the administrative and technical dossiers involving house restorations, building permissions, etc.
Today, the Municipality receives over than 80% of these dossiers via Web (without paper exchange), supplying to the professionals the capability to follow up in the same way, office by office, the administrative procedure inside the Municipality.
Using Geo-Web Services technology and an advanced geocoding procedure, the Web site supplies to the professionals, starting from the address, a raster map containing the territory around the building / house subjected to the procedure.
A complete professionals’ database completes the application.
Nowadays, GESP continues to support the Municipality developing new projects, supplying assistance and applications: in this matter, we point out the further following “success stories”:
- San Giuliano on-time: it’s an Web-based PHP project to view and manage the properties and the public services (schools, kindergartens, pharmacies, etc.) included the relevant attributes (opening time, location, etc.) supplied by the Municipality inside its own territory;
- Web-hosting, commercial maintenance and assistance: it consists in the supply of the consultancy and services to maintain and develop the commercial (ESRI-based) software and the Web-GIS-site of the Municipality: with this service GESP offers its own servers and technologies to support publications and maintain (H24) Municipality’s business & GIS applications;
- Project of the survey of the new aero-photogrammetry: GESP wrote the technical specifications to acquire digital data to be integrated in the Geographical Information System.
The project involved also the supply of HW (n.1 server ProLiant ML350 G2, OS Win 2000 Server) and SW (n.3 ESRI ArcView and maintenance, n.1 ESRI ArcIMS and maintenance).
